Unlock Cox Campaign

At 10 p.m., the lights go out. Projects are left unfinished, organization meetings are forced to cut short, and students are sent home from the very building meant to support their success. That ends now.

I started the Unlock Cox Campaign to push for a simple but powerful change: extend Cox School of Business closing hours from 10 p.m. to midnight on weeknights. This is not just about more study time—it’s about unlocking opportunity. Two more hours means organizations can meet without rushing, teams can finish group projects, and students can prepare for the challenges that define their Cox experience.

As a Cox Student Senator, it’s my job to advocate for the needs of my peers. Unlock Cox is about giving us back the time and space we need to lead, learn, and succeed."

It's time to keep Cox open for the students it serves. It's time to Unlock Cox

Sincerely,

Owen Bartosh

Cox Student Senator

What Students Are Saying

  • "As a member of the Alts program, a CMC Peer Coach, a Don Jackson Associate, and a member of the Spindletop Investment Fund, I think the collaborative space that Cox provides is unmatched on campus. As a result, it's a hotspot of group work, thoughtful conversation, and long nights. Business students have the ability to learn and grow from each other here, which is stifled by the 10 pm closing. As someone who has had to pause my work to relocate at 10 pm many times, I think this initiative will benefit current and future students greatly." — Genevieve Mayer, Don Jackson Asscociate
  • "On behalf of the SMU Real Estate Club, which has over 700 active members, and the RISE program, I want to express our strong support for extending Cox School of Business operating hours until midnight each evening. Our members frequently use Cox facilities for case competitions, study groups, recruiting preparation, and collaborative projects. Many of these commitments extend well past the current 10 pm closing time, and the limited hours restrict our ability to work effectively and competitively. Extended building access would directly benefit our students by providing a safe, professional environment to meet, prepare, and excel. We believe this change will have a significant positive impact on the student experience in Cox and strongly endorse this initiative " — Carl Firch, Real Estate Club President
  • "Spindletop is a tight-knit team of 36 energy finance students who build and pitch investments together each month. Our home base is the Scott Sheffield Energy Investment Lab on the mezzanine across from the Cox CMC, and keeping Cox open until midnight would let us continue working as a team after class to develop the collaborative skills required for a career in high finance." — Syed Sajjad, Spindletop Investment Fund
